LOVE BY LAWRENCE NURSE

“Love”, The universe spun, stars collide and created circumstances like no other. You can call it an act of kindness from the one above. Today I embraced the presence of three beautiful, black nubian queens. Unique in their own entity they have walked the path given to them by the one we call the most high. I stood still at an intersection in nyc, with no direction in mind when a nubian queen whispered, "Go forth my brother" this she said after I presented her with the piece I call "Love".

 The V.V. Brown Experience

V.V. Brown

Known for her breakthrough song 'Shock in the water'  V.V. Brown premiered at the Hiro Ballroom for her first performance in the United States.  The anticipation for her debut created a long stream of people patiently waiting on line around the Maritime Hotel.  Upon entering with my cousin Kenya Agunloye;  waited a packed house of fans looking forward for the U.K.'s Puerto Rican and Jamaican beauty to perform.    The Venue offered an Asian inspired aphrodisiac that created a sexy intimate setting despite the sea of people.

Two drinks and a glass of wine later to pass the time, we continued to patiently wait for her delayed appearance.  Needless to say Brown was worth the wait; she rushed the stage with high energy and shared great interaction with the audience, (of course after apologizing for her tardiness) .  Her vocals and band filled Hiro with authentic talent that left me wanting to inquire more about the U.K.'s  rising star.  Brown performed three of her songs and added a bit of humor to the show doing an acapella rap to the artist Drake's hit song 'You the best'.  After captivating her crowd who recited her lyrics word for word  Brown brought the house down ending the show with her hit 'Shark in the water'.

V.V. Brown brought in more than what I expected from her press coverage and buzz.  I look forward to seeing what 2010 brings for her career.  To find more information on Brown check out her official blog site at http://vvbrown.com/.

Subway jams and sweet soul saves me from the raft of the place they call "Shutter Island"

“Four dollars for a bag of 75 cent skittles are you kidding me” So I came across some movie tickets to see the new release" Shutter Island ".  I'm usually not the movie type but the opportunity came up and I had to take it by its neck. Trust me I'm not going to spoil the fun for many of you or ruin a couple of dollars from this billion dollar industry, but on the same hand I feel like it’s my calling to warn you guys and girls. Have you ever seen a movie where you know what’s going to happen at the end, about 10 minutes into it. Finally after some camera tricks and passionate role-play the movie starts to wind down and then it abruptly comes to an end, leaving you with the question “Is there more?” Leaving room for a part two to make triple the money they made on the first one, the film director has just bamboozled you into seeing part two. "No way say it ain' t so!!!"

Well that's "shutter Island In a Nutshell, Let the music play on.

The Celebration of Life, "Happy New Year To Me"

Around 10 pm on February 20th 1989 a new source of energy was introduced to the world. Born in Trinidad, Port of Spain (a small island located in the "west Indies"); a young man who couldn't wait to embrace the world with his skill and talent was introduced. Born to Jacinta and George Nurse, two artists of their time, he was now part of a family of persistent and caring young hearts. The last of his bunch with a new generation to come, he spent 4 years of his life on this island he called home. Upon turning 5 years of age, he was later introduced to a new land and began his journey to success;

that young man is me

There's no better way to celebrate another year of life, other than with your family friends and the people you come to love. I'm always stressing on living a productive, yet fun and excitement filled life. As you may know, I turned 21 on February 20, 2010, a major millstone in my life I can only thank the one above, My mother, My Father, My siblings, My second family aka My friends and everyone who has decided to follow my journey. Today in our society making out of your teenage years is very difficult. Not only is it stressful, but it can define the direction of ones life.

Thanking you guys for your love and support. Remember happiness is key to whatever endeavor you wish to fulfill.

"Risto" At New York City Fashion Week

Today I had the chance to attend the Risto fashion show in lower Manhattan New York; unique and creative in his own way he pulled together an amazing presentation featuring some cool pieces for women.

On another note, Seriously after a couple of events you come to realize how small the New York scene really is, shout outs to Kortney and Ataui.

The Passion Pit Experience.

Can't remember where you’re going.... if you don't know where you’re coming from.

When thinking of Black History Month, often times we are limited to the education of the tribulations that many Black-Americans faced.  The Struggle for equality amongst black's occurred world wide.  And one of the most notorious horrors that took place in Black history was the reign of Apartheid in South Africa.  The ideology behind Apartheid was the legal separation of Africans and Europeans, to remain apart in their own land.        Fortunately Apartheid has come to and end in 1994, but its scars still remain in the hearts of Africans and others directly or indirectly affected by its devastation.   Due to many civil rights leaders across the borders from Nelson Mandela to Martin Luther King, they have paved the way for a new generation of Blacks to achieve the worldwide dream of equality and prosperity.
In the spirit of Black pride, I will leave you all with one of my favorite videos. I am attracted to the colors, feel and soul that Janet Jackson's video 'Got till its gone' captures.  We should all remember that despite the sorrows Blacks have been through, their happiness and faith is what brought on our freedom today. If things in your immediate life may not be all they seem or what you want it to be now, hold on to happiness and faith; you really don't know what you have until its gone.

A Night At The Loom Art Show With B. Forde

Attention please!!! New York City is way to cold; I’m patiently waiting to feel the first summer breeze of 2010. Tonight I saw a side of Brooklyn New York that I can truly say,
" I dislike". Unfortunately our youth are indulging in pointless activities. While waiting for the “A” train I witnessed a brawl between 40 young people guys and girls combined. My only question is "Where’s the love?” Still the place I’ve learnt to love and respect, Brooklyn New York is where my heart will stay. A Mecca of creativity from all around the world I must send out much respect to Sarah Lamar for the invite and bringing it all together at the Loom .To my Barrel House family thanks for showing Triple L Society much love, keep on pushing.

"The Sweetest Hangover"

When thinking of the 'golden years' its safe to say the 70's was the last of the good times. It embodied the concept of living life without a limit.  Prices were reasonable, living was easy, and the party ended till the last person stood. Although times were often tough for many inner-city families and youths, the dawn of the day brought to life the soul of boogie.  The night-life gave birth to the sounds of disco...funk...polyester and spandex.
I have been fortunate to be raised on the vinyl sounds of the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, and Curtis Mayfield, who are few of the pioneers to the movement. The fashion made way for the Halston dresses, three piece-suits; and sequins which has reinvented itself for this generation.  What captures me the most about the 70's is the care-free hopeful spirit of the people. The definition of sisters and brothers went beyond intermediate family. People were out for great sounds, vibes and stepping out in their best.

It was a great time to be young.
